Love is So Much More Fun Than Hate

Although I didn’t watch the Super Bowl, I did catch Bad Bunny’s halftime performance.

I like football, but as an artist, the halftime show is what I look forward to most. Over the years, I’ve seen performances that were impressive and others that fell flat. This one? It was the most fun I’ve ever witnessed.

It felt deeply collaborative. There was a narrative. And above all, it radiated pure joy.

It didn’t matter that most of the performance was in Spanish, or that I only understood parts of it intellectually. Music and dance transcend language—they speak directly to the heart. In that moment, we saw the Latino community—like the Black community, rich in every shade and hue—fully alive, celebrating themselves, and offering the world something unforgettable. I loved every second of it.

Briefly, my thoughts turned to those who tried to detract from this moment by staging a competing performance—an attempt to protest diversity, fueled by anger and fear. Their efforts were ultimately thwarted, and what remained felt less like resistance and more like something sad and hollow.

Later, I watched footage of the aftermath of Bad Bunny’s performance: people smiling and hugging, clapping and dancing, shouting their joy and admiration. And the message landed with full clarity—

Love is simply so much more fun than hate.

Hate is boring.
It ages you.
It frustrates you.
It looks small.
And it’s deeply sad.

So today, I hope you choose love instead.

How about it?
