To the men of the city, they are not divine messengers. They are simply new bodies to ravage. A mob gathers outside your home. They pound on the door and demand that your father surrender the handsome strangers so they can violate them. Your father refuses. He would never hand over God's angels to a violent crowd.
But you are only a woman.
You and your sister are not regarded as equals, nor as people whose worth and value are self-evident. In a society that values male honor above female safety, you are expendable.
Then you hear your father say:
"Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them out to you, and you can do what you like with them. But don’t do anything to these men, for they have come under the protection of my roof."Genesis 19:8
